Winter Postcards - Plan & Preorders
Hello!
This year I want to do a small project that was on my mind for a long time (years) but I always miss the time window when it makes sense - winter holiday cards! I gathered my favourite sketches I did in the last couple of years and I want to redraw them in watercolour and print as postcards (and art prints).
You can preorder the cards here right now. Below I'll talk about each design a little bit and the timeline :)
Sketches

1. Mistletoe Beetle - a love beetle carrying a mistletoe branch. I drew this in 2024, I love the piece a lot but never got a good quality photo or scan of it to turn it into a print. It is painted without the background but I think it will look better with a contrasting colour behind it than on white paper, I did this simple edit for preview, and I will do a cleaner version once I have it scanned properly.

2. Helping Paw - I love photos of cats with huge sparkly eyes as they hunt shiny decorations. So I drew one, but made it extra cute so it feels more joyful and playful. I decided to put the cat in a scene of early stages of decorating, when stuff is still in boxes and on the floor, as I love this part of christmas eve. Whimsical chaos, testing lamps and untangling garlands, and a fun atmosphere of collaboration as everyone does everything (including taste-testing forgotten 6 years old candy). And what could make it more lovely than putting a cute cat in the middle of it? :3

3. Picnic in the Woods - I only ever roasted marshmallows over fire once in my life, and we accidentally bought 'fake marshmallows' so they burned in 2 seconds instead of melting, and it was middle of the summer day, so the whole experience had 0% cosiness in it ^^". But I love campfires and I can't stop thinking of the idea of doing a winter campfire picnic one day. For now I want to draw one instead, including the dreamy winter forest and sky with auroras.

4. Cosy afternoon - falling snow behind the window, darkening sky, jolly rock music from the radio, sound of food cooking on the stove. A strange feeling of being in another dimension as everyday life happens in the house, but it's this perfect combination of calm and cheerful vibes. I want to attempt to capture that feeling in this simple and calm illustration, to share it with people anytime, not just when the stars align perfectly :)

5. Decorated Tree - the last piece for this series, a joyful scene of forest animals gathering ornaments and putting together their own tree. I want this one to bring pure joy and magic, to feel like playing in that fluffy snow on a perfect winter day.
Preorders
I'm doing preorders to hopefully get enough money to outsource printing of these. I need to sell 25 bundles (approximately 250 chf) to cover large order printing costs, and if I don't reach this number I'll print and cut them myself. This is calculated based on minimum order quantity where the price per card is actually cheaper than if I use the shared workshop's printer. But they are being producted either way, this is why I didn't want to do a kickstarter campaign for this project - I rather make these by hand for one person than not do them at all. I've been sitting on these ideas for ages and I want to finally turn them into reality :)
There is an early bird discount for orders placed before I publish finished illustration + 3 days after that. The prices are 10 chf for a set of 5 postcards (one of each design) or 18 chf for a set of 10 postcards of the same design. After that the preorder prices will be 12 chf for 5 and 22 chf for 10. Regular prices after preorders will be 15 chf for 5 and 25 chf for 10 - the cards will be available at my online store in November and at in-person markets starting from late October :)
I'm only selling these in bundles as this helps keep transaction fees low, I have to pay a set fee + percentage on each payment which can take up a lot from small payments. But when selling bundles the total fee amounts to smaller fraction of the price, and I can offer a lower price per card than if I sold them individually. It also saves me a bit of time and money by not having to pack them individually.
Stretch Goal
While 25 sets is absolutely great, each additional sale will help me a lot. My dream for this is to sell 150 bundles, which would let me pay for more watercolour paper, new brushes (because my default one lost a bunch of hair...), and a new public transport ticket (it's 800 chf and I need to renew it soon). If we can reach this number I'll add a vinyl sticker (~7cm tall) to each preorder <3 (I'll do a few sketches for you to vote on if we get close to it)
Timeline
I'm working on the illustrations right now, and I will publish them as I progress. The plan is to finish them by early October, get them scanned and edit printing files and order prints the day after preorders close. I'll pack and send all of them in the first two weeks of November so hopefully they arrive to you by end of the month, and you have time to send them out to your friends :)
As a list with dates:
5.10 - finish all illustrations
16.10 - scanning and editing, final renders published
19.10 - preorders closing
20.10 - print order
1.11-15.11 - shipping of preorders
1.11 - normal orders open for all extra copies
